    TM habit

I just realized that I have a habit leftover from TM. If I am in my office alone with the door closed (trying to eat lunch, for instance), and, let's say, a male client knocks and lets himself in (it happens all the time - some don't knock at all), I ask them to leave the door open - always. It makes me uncomfortable to be in the office with the door shut alone with a man! I'm positive 99.99% of the refugee guys are not going to harass me nor are other refugees going to start rumors about what goes on behind closed doors, but, frankly, these situations weren't really possible at Teen Mania either. I don't think it's a bad habit, really, but I think it is sorta funny. At World Relief, we have to guard people's privacy a lot, so, many times it is appropriate and necessary to shut the door. Anyway, I just discovered this leftover habit and found it amusing.

Hope everyone enjoyed their Easter celebrations!

  • That is so funny.  When I started reading this I thought you were going to say you were sleeping under your desk.  Ha! (*not that that ever happened)

See I always felt like male staff members thought I was a molester or seductress when they asked me to crack the door.  I hated that rule/norm.

  • I have so many strange left-over habits from ORU/In His Image days too.  It's funny because once you leave Tulsa/Bible belt, those rules seem a bit...archaic and bizarre. Ha!

  • Haha! That's awesome! And funny because I was there longer and more indoctrinated than you and I am totally over most of that stuff. Kinda have to be though since I now work in a world of men. I am constantly alone with one guy or another in the office, driving, etc. And, honestly, being so open and relaxed makes me feel safer and more protected than I think I ever did at TM or working in a church. Funny...
I hope you are able to overcome your habit! ;)

  • i think its a good habit to be in, maybe not always necessary, but still good. especially when youre married.

  • i just ordered 2 copies of the book!  Thanks for the recommendation!
